Other Courses
Is one Bachelor's Degree course not enough after hours of work or raising your children? You wanna squeeze in one more for a completion? Sure, who doesn't!
Well, I know it can be tough finding time to scratch your ear sometimes... But since you're here, probably there's a prat of you wondering "is there something else I can do to ensure my success?".
And the answer is yes - there is a couple of things I highly recommend to at least trying to do to enhance your Computer Science knowledge and your CV. They're something else than what we do at DIT, hence they will nicely complement what we learn throughout our studies.
Easy stuff that makes things easier:
- Codecademy (link with explanation coming soon) - a super easy to use (and free) education platform that will help you with some programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, HTML/CSS and SQL. You can pay for Pro version if you want more content and support the developers who made this portal, but free version is very good too and will give you a firm base to continue learning listed above languages.
More advanced stuff:
- Harvardx CS50 on edx.org (link with explanation coming soon) - an absolute gamechanger for those who really want to understand how the programming works, get a good grasp on C, Python, HTML, CSS and see how to use them together. It's an actual course from Harvard University and it provides you with hours of greatest lectures I've ever seen and very challenging Problem Sets. Self paced and free, although you can pay $90 to receive a certificate of completion that is actually quite a catch when it comes to IT recruiters. It also avails Cloud9 to you that I find very useful as a cloud IDE.
There's a couple of more items that I came across, but didn't try yet. If I come across anything else that I like / see that IT recruiters regard highly - I'll put it right here!
